Discovery Day of Breeds, Colors, Markings, and Horse Identity
How can you tell horses apart even if they all look similar? What makes one horse a Paint, another a Quarter Horse, and another a Palomino? Welcome to The Breed & Color Compass, where campers become real‑life Horse Inspectors for a day.
In this fun, hands‑on Discovery Day, kids work with our friendly barn horses to learn how horse colors, markings, and body shapes help us identify who’s who. Campers will measure height, spot unique markings, learn what brands mean, and create their very own “Equine Identification Sheet” for each horse. It’s the perfect mix of science, art, and horse time.
🌟 What Your Junior Inspector Will Experience:
The Coat Color Genetics Lab: Campers explore the world of horse colors — chestnut, bay, palomino, buckskin, gray, and more. They’ll learn how to spot special features like dapples, roaning, and color shades that make each horse unique. They will Learn how base genes (Black and Red) mutate into rare patterns. Campers decode the "cream gene recipe" that makes Palominos, Buckskins, and Grullos.
Branding & Breed Basics
Campers discover how ranches and breeders use brands and symbols to show where a horse came from. They’ll also learn simple ways to recognize common breeds by their shape, size, and job — like the strong Quarter Horse or the elegant Thoroughbred.
The Height & Build Check
Kids use real barn tools like height sticks and weight tapes to measure our horses. They’ll learn what “hands high” means and how a horse’s build can hint at what it’s good at.
👀 The Markings Station
Using safe, washable liquid chalk, campers outline and label real markings on our horses.
They’ll learn how these markings help identify a horse just like a fingerprint.
The Track & Stride Trail Expedition: A scenic trail ride where riders study footprint dynamics, measure stride ratios across different terrains, and evaluate conformation in motion.
The Breed Bowl Arena Game: A high-speed, interactive trivia sprint testing conformation, history, Colors, Markings, and breed origin points.

Ever wonder how elite equestrian brands create their iconic, polished looks? Or how historical wilderness explorers gathered natural pigments and elements from the trail to craft functional gear? Welcome to The Creative Compass.
In this immersive, 1-day Discovery Day, campers don't just visit the barn—they take over as Lead Creative Directors. Working with our three incredible resident horses, campers will dive into the science of coat genetics, master the architecture of equestrian styling, and embark on a horseback trail expedition to gather raw materials. From designing custom stable brands to hand-crafting rustic timber stall plates, this is a hands-on journey where art, nature, and horsemanship collide.
🌟 What Your Designer Will Experience:
The Equestrian Branding Lab: Learn the rules of professional stable aesthetics. Campers choose their signature 3-color palette, sketch a minimalist logo, and build a cohesive brand.
The Living Canvas Project: Working safely under expert supervision, designers use water-based, animal-safe liquid chalk markers to map out our horses' coat genetics and apply their custom stenciled logos directly onto the hips of our herd.
Hair Couture Studio: Master the ancient, functional art of equine hair design, weaving their brand-colored yarn into elegant, symmetrical show braids.
The Materials Procurement Expedition: A thrilling trail ride where campers search for fallen timber, pinecone stamps, and vascular leaves to physically construct their afternoon masterpieces.
The Artisan Lab: Design and paint a beautiful, customized canvas tote bag using their natural trail-gathered stamps, and hand-craft a rustic, bark-edged wooden nameplate for their favorite horse's stall.
The Arena Design Showcase: A professional-style "Gallery Walk" and critique inside the arena where campers present their finished collections.
